Audition Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Thespian Arts Academy! We are excited to see your talent and potential. Please read the following guidelines carefully to ensure a smooth and successful audition process.
General Requirements:
- All auditionees must be at least 16 years of age.
- Applicants must submit a completed application form, available on our Contact page, prior to scheduling an audition.
- A non-refundable audition fee of $50 is required. This fee covers the cost of administrative processing and faculty evaluation.
Audition Material:
- Prepare one contemporary monologue, no longer than two minutes in length. The monologue should showcase your acting range and ability to connect with the material.
- You may be asked to perform a cold reading from a provided script. Be prepared to adapt quickly and demonstrate your understanding of the text.
- For musical theatre applicants, prepare 16 bars of a song that demonstrates your vocal ability. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist; an accompanist will be provided.
- Applicants interested in the movement for actors program may be asked to participate in a brief movement exercise. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement.
What to Expect:
- Auditions will be held at our campus located at 555 Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012, in Studio A.
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled audition time to check in and complete any necessary paperwork.
- You will be greeted by our audition panel, consisting of faculty members from various departments.
- Following your performance, the panel may ask you a few questions about your acting experience and goals.
- The audition process is designed to be supportive and encouraging. Our goal is to help you showcase your talent and determine if Thespian Arts Academy is the right fit for you.
Notification:
Applicants will be notified of their audition results within two weeks of their audition date. Acceptance decisions are based on a combination of factors, including audition performance, application materials, and overall potential.

Preparation Tips for a Successful Audition
We want you to feel confident and prepared for your audition. Here are some tips to help you shine:
- Choose material that showcases your strengths. Select a monologue that you connect with emotionally and that allows you to demonstrate your range and personality.
- Practice, practice, practice! Rehearse your monologue until it feels natural and effortless. Know your lines inside and out, and be prepared to adapt if necessary.
- Make strong choices. Develop a clear understanding of your character and their motivations. Make bold and specific choices that bring the character to life.
- Connect with the material. Let your emotions shine through, and be authentic in your performance. The panel wants to see that you are passionate about acting and that you can connect with the audience.
- Dress appropriately. Wear clothing that is comfortable and allows for freedom of movement. Avoid distracting patterns or accessories.
- Be professional and courteous. Arrive on time, be respectful to the audition panel, and thank them for their time.
- Relax and have fun! Remember that the audition is an opportunity to showcase your talent and passion for acting. Relax, be yourself, and enjoy the experience.
- Research Thespian Arts Academy. Demonstrate your genuine interest in our school by familiarizing yourself with our programs, faculty, and mission. Refer to specific courses or instructors that resonate with your artistic goals. This shows that you've thoughtfully considered Thespian Arts Academy as a potential fit for your training.
